Village Walk | Belmont, CA
At 5th Avenue and Broadway in Belmont, the neighborhood is defined by single-family residences and a residential fabric that has grown up over time. Sares Regis saw an opportunity to add new townhouses here, bringing more homes to the area while respecting the character of the street.
The central challenge was scale. Fifteen homes on one site could easily read as a single large development beside much smaller neighbors. BDE Architecture worked with the client to break that massing into two distinct structures with differing scale and architectural treatments, matching the existing residential fabric. The design uses the existing grade to partially bury the first level and garage, reducing the overall height of the development, while a varied roof line, craftsman details and covered decks balance the townhouses with the adjacent houses.
Completed in 2024 in Type VB construction, Village Walk gives residents a central courtyard and covered decks for outdoor living, and gives the neighborhood new homes that feel at home on the block. The result shows how added housing can arrive at a scale its neighbors recognize.
