Vasara | Menlo Park, CA
Just off the 101 freeway in Menlo Park, the site falls within the larger Menlo Park Portal plan, an area set to welcome new homes and workplaces. Greystar envisioned a seven-story mixed-use building bringing commercial, office and residential space together, with a total of 335 dwelling units.
Combining these uses in one building, while creating a more welcoming edge at the street, required close collaboration. The project pairs Type III over Type I construction with a material palette of stucco, fiber cement and aluminum siding, designed to embrace a modern and clean aesthetic. BDE Architecture worked as architect of record hand-in-hand with original design architect Heller Manus, guiding the client's vision from design intent toward a buildable, coordinated whole.
For residents, Vasara offers a seventh-floor roof deck with BBQ and outdoor dining areas, a dog run, and a third-floor courtyard with pool and lounge space. At street level, landscaping adds native trees and plantings for a more pedestrian-friendly environment, giving this part of Menlo Park a place to live, work and walk.
