Laguna Clara | Santa Clara, CA

Within an existing Equity Residential development in Santa Clara, a short drive from downtown and Apple headquarters near Highway 82 and the Lawrence Expressway, there is an opportunity to make better use of the land. Laguna Clara will remove five existing buildings, partially demolish a sixth and replace them with one higher-density building of 225 homes.

The challenge is to add density without disrupting the community already there. The design ties the new building into the existing 21 surrounding structures through landscaped communal areas, an at-grade pool and spa, and improved access between buildings. The design team worked with the community to develop a project that blends into its setting. In the amenity spaces, cross laminated timber (CLT) is incorporated into the structure, creating an exposed wood aesthetic and greater head height in the common spaces. BDE Architecture is partnering with Equity Residential on this Type IIIA over IA building, which is designed to be LEED Gold certified.

When complete, residents will enjoy a lounge, club room, conference room, two courtyards, fitness center, pool, sky lounge and roof deck, all within an elegant, contemporary building that feels modern inside and out.
