Gamel Way | Mountain View, CA
At 1920 Gamel Way in Mountain View, DeNardi Wang sees the chance to bring more than two hundred new homes to a city where housing is in demand. The project is planned as a six-story residential building that puts the pedestrian experience at the center of its design.
Achieving that density while keeping the building comfortable at street level is the core challenge. The design stacks five stories of Type III-A wood framing over one story of Type I-A concrete and metal framing, with a subterranean garage below. The plans include 250 parking spaces, tucked beneath and within the base so they do not dominate the street. The aim is a harmonious balance between functionality, comfort and contemporary style, so that residents and passersby alike experience the building as a good neighbor. BDE Architecture is partnering with DeNardi Wang to shape these goals into a coherent and efficient plan.
When complete, Gamel Way will offer Mountain View a new residential building with a contemporary character and a street presence designed for people on foot. It will add a substantial number of homes while contributing to a more walkable neighborhood.
