Cityspaces 500 | Oakland, CA

Next to the West Oakland BART station, the only BART station directly connected to every other station in the Bay Area, sits a site with remarkable potential. Panoramic Interests has proposed Cityspaces 500, a new workforce housing development that will put homes for working people within steps of regional transit and close to a newly revitalized downtown Oakland.

The ambition is large: 1,032 apartments and 41,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial and flex space, organized into three buildings in Type IA and IB construction. To keep a development of this scale open and connected, the buildings are separated by two new pedestrian streets that will weave the site into the surrounding neighborhood. The project is designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, and BDE Architecture is partnering with Panoramic Interests and the design team to help carry the vision forward.

Once realized, Cityspaces 500 will give more than a thousand households a home next to BART, with shops and flexible spaces at street level and new walkways for the whole neighborhood. It will take full advantage of its proximity to downtown Oakland and to a transit line that reaches every corner of the Bay Area.
