Treehouse | San Diego, CA
In San Diego's Banker's Hill neighborhood, with the coast on one side and downtown on the other, Raintree Partners sees an opportunity to add new homes with a strong sense of place. Treehouse is planned as an eight-story apartment building with 107 units.
The design places residential units on every floor in Type IIIA over IA construction, while setting aside space on both the first and eighth floors for shared amenities. The most distinctive challenge sits at the top: creating a roof deck that feels both sheltered and open to the sky. The answer is an open, greenhouse-like structure that encloses a portion of the deck, offering a place that blurs the line between indoors and out. BDE Architecture is partnering with Raintree Partners to resolve these ideas into a building that works well on every level, from the ground floor to the roof.
When complete, Treehouse will give its residents a rooftop retreat with expansive views toward the coast and downtown San Diego, along with amenity space at ground level. For Banker's Hill, it will mean 107 new homes with a distinctive rooftop to call their own.
