Aquino | San Jose, CA

At the corner of Josefa and West San Carlos Streets, within downtown San Jose's General Plan designation and the Diridon Area Specific Plan, the city is preparing for growth. Urban Catalyst envisions Aquino, an 8-story building that will bring 278 new homes to this evolving part of downtown.

Fitting that many homes and their parking onto an urban corner calls for inventive solutions. The building stacks five stories of Type IIIA residential over three levels of Type IA mixed parking and residential, and the garage will use mechanical parking stackers to maximize space efficiency. The architecture is modern and minimal, with one bold gesture: a floor-to-ceiling faceted storefront rising up the corner, with detailing reminiscent of stained glass that draws the eye to the building's anchor corner. BDE Architecture is partnering with Urban Catalyst to bring these ideas from concept toward reality.

When complete, residents will enjoy a bark park and skydeck, a lounge, a fitness center with yoga studio, a courtyard with spa and outdoor kitchen, a dog run and private coworking offices, giving downtown San Jose a distinctive new landmark corner and a full community of neighbors.
