Along the West San Carlos corridor, within the Diridon Station Area Plan, San Jose is preparing for new activity around a growing transit hub. Urban Catalyst envisions a Marriott hotel here, an 8-story building that will welcome travelers while bringing life to the street.

Fitting a full hotel on the site calls for a careful stack. Three levels of above-grade podium parking, with 112 spaces plus motorcycle and bicycle parking within or beside the garage, will support five stories of wood frame construction above, in Type IIIA over IA. To keep the corridor from feeling like a garage wall, hotel amenities and common areas are concentrated on the ground and second floors and oriented toward West San Carlos, activating the street frontage. BDE Architecture is partnering with Urban Catalyst to balance parking, rooms and public-facing space within a compact footprint.

When complete, the hotel will offer guests exercise facilities, small meeting rooms and a breakfast area. At the top floor corner, an indoor/outdoor lounge will invite guests to take in the views, get some work done or hold an informal meeting, giving the Diridon area a lively new place to stay.
