Flora & Fauna | San Diego, CA
San Diego's Bankers Hill neighborhood sits within blocks of Balboa Park, a setting that invites people to live close to green space and the city alike. Raintree Partners envisions Flora & Fauna, a two-building community that will add 186 homes to the neighborhood.
The site itself shapes the challenge. The buildings occupy two separate parcels, one on either side of Ivy Street, so the project must read as a single community while working as two distinct structures. Each is planned in Type III A over I A construction, and both share a contemporary language: a neutral, modern material palette with tile wood-look cladding, accented by metal railings and framed awnings. Carrying that palette consistently across both parcels will let the pair frame Ivy Street as a coherent whole. BDE Architecture is partnering with Raintree Partners to bring the two buildings into balance.
Once complete, Flora & Fauna will give its residents modern homes in a walkable neighborhood, with Balboa Park only blocks away. For Bankers Hill, it will mean 186 new homes and a refreshed streetscape on both sides of Ivy Street.
