111 Independence | Menlo Park, CA
At the edge of Bedwell Bayfront Park, overlooking the southern end of the San Francisco Bay, SP Menlo, LLC sees the chance to bring new homes close to the water. 111 Independence Drive is planned as an 8-story building of 105 residential dwelling units.
As a corner property, the site carries a responsibility to its neighbors. The design folds a public plaza into the street-level facade, with landscaped trees and a sitting area for neighbors and visitors. At the back, the property line is shared with another BDE-designed building, and a public paseo will wind through the landscaped area between them to create a compatible edge. The building will also run purely on electric power, per the mandate of Menlo Park, within Type IIIA over IA construction. BDE Architecture is partnering with SP Menlo to bring these public and private goals together.
When complete, residents will enjoy a basketball court, dog run and dog wash, an elevated courtyard and pool deck, a game room, a bocce ball court, a ground-floor café, and a roof deck with club room looking out over the Bay and nearby marshland.
